The inspiration for this painting was old derelict homes in Co. Donegal, in the North West of Ireland. Deserted villages are plentiful there and although sad to see, they are wonderful to sketch and paint, and evoke memories of families whose ghosts still haunt the silent spaces. Some emigrated after eviction or the Famine to a better life in America.
