This was sketched on a late afternoon when the sun was casting wonderful shadows on to the inner berthed fishing boats at low tide. These shadow shapes change as you are sketching. I decided to only apply a light wash in order not to take away from the very loose penwork, quickly drawn, and preserve the overall black and white 'feel' of the piece.
